TRUE TEMPER’S NEW EQUIPMENT IMPROVES
SERVICE FOR BENT PUTTER CUSTOMERS
Memphis, TN - May 30, 1996 - True Temper introduces two new service improvements
for putter customers. First, samples of any bent putter shaft can be produced in
less than two days. Second, production orders will be produced to tighter
tolerances with greater accuracy and repeatability.
“The new computerized putter manufacturing cell has greatly improved the
accuracy and repeatability of bending putters,” says True Temper President Scott
Hennessy, “By reducing the engineering cycle and the manufacturing setup, we are
able to produce putter samples from prints or prototypes in a matter of hours.”
A coordinate measuring machine digitizes the prototype putter shaft by mapping
points along the surface of the shaft and storing them in a computer. The
computer is then programmed to run a dedicated machine that automatically bends
the shaft to the customer’s original specifications. The new equipment has
already helped several customers obtain perfect face balancing and exact loft
and lie specifications.
The new machines have also improved production speed and quality. Machine set up
is as simple as loading a file from the computer. Up to two bends and an
offset can be produced automatically and consistently. True Temper’s investment
in the new putter cell has more than doubled capacity.
True Temper Sports, an independent subsidiary of Black & Decker, is the world’s
