TRUE TEMPER GROWTH TREND CONTINUES
Composite Facility Expanded
Memphis, TN - August 1, 1997 - True Temper President Scott Hennessy announced
today the expansion of the company’s Olive Branch, Mississippi composite
manufacturing facility. The expansion will affect the company’s overall shaft
operations, and will bring production capacity to over 12,000 shafts per day. An
indoor testing facility will also be constructed during the expansion which will
increase the capabilities of the Research and Development department. Ground
breaking for the expansion took place on July 15 and is expected to be completed
by the end of September.
The announcement comes on the heels of the company’s continued success of their
composite golf shaft line on the PGA tour, which includes a win at this year’s
British Open with the EI-70® graphite shaft. Over thirty major golf club
manufacturers now use True Temper graphite shafts in their product lines.
Hennessy notes, “The expansion is part of a strategic planning initiative
designed to meet increased graphite production targets and maintain our
leadership position in the research and design of composite golf shafts. The
expanded facility will also help to expedite new shaft designs that will be
manufactured with a new proprietary metal matrix composite material.”
The Olive Branch expansion follows True Temper’s opening of a West Coast
Technical Center just six months ago. Capacity upgrades are also being installed
at True Temper’s Amory, Mississippi plant to meet the increased consumer demand
for SensiCore® products.
