SENSICORE™ WINS FIRST MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP
True Temper Sweeps 1997 Majors
Mamaroneck, NY - August 18, 1997 - This year’s playing of the PGA Championship
was a historic one. Davis Love III, one of the leading players on the PGA tour,
captured his first major championship. It also marked a historic day for True
Temper Sports. The 1997 PGA Championship was the first major golf championship
where the winner played True Temper steel shafts with SensiCore™ technology.
Love plays Dynamic Gold® steel shafts with SensiCore™. SensiCore™ is a patented
vibration dampening technology that eliminates up to 70% of the vibration in a
steel shaft. True Temper engineers joined with vibration abatement experts to
develop a composite polymer core, positioned inside the shaft, that eliminates
unwanted vibration at impact. The result offers golfers a product that has the
consistent performance benefits of steel, while SensiCore™ delivers a soft,
solid feel by eliminating vibration at impact.
This win also marks the second consecutive major championship where the winner
used an EI-70® graphite shaft in his driver. This year’s winner of the British
Open carried an EI-70® to victory one month ago, and coincidentally finished as
runner-up to Davis Love III in this year’s PGA Championship.
In 1997, True Temper had a perfect record. Professional golf’s four majors, The
Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship, were won by players
using True Temper shafts. Once again, True Temper has proven that it is a
driving force on professional tours throughout the world. To date, players using
True Temper shafts have won over 60 golf tournaments worldwide.
True Temper Sports is the world leader in the production and sale of golf
