TRUE TEMPER GROWTH CONTINUES

Memphis, TN - September 8, 1997 - True Temper is following up a banner 1996 with an even more impressive 1997. Once again, the company is expecting an increase in sales, with over 25% coming from the sale of new products.

With the increase in sales, True Temper has expanded their manufacturing capabilities and capacities at both their Amory and Olive Branch, Mississippi facilities. Capacity upgrades were installed at the Amory steel shaft facility to help the company meet the increased demand for SensiCore™ products, while an expansion at the Olive Branch composite plant increased production levels for both the flag wrap and filament winding operations.

In addition to the manufacturing expansions, True Temper has opened its third international affiliate: True Temper Japan. The Japanese company will be charged with growing sales and improving service to the second largest golf market in the world. The Japanese operation joins True Temper’s other international affiliates located in Europe and Australia. True Temper President Scott Hennessy comments, “We are very excited about our continued success and overall company growth. For 1998, we will continue our mission of providing golfers of all skill levels with the finest, most consistent performing shafts in the industry. With the facility upgrades, we are prepared to handle the increased demand for our shafts.”

The EI-70® filament wound graphite shaft headlines the new product introductions for 1998. True Temper engineers have taken the tour tested EI-70® shaft design and applied filament winding techniques to produce the newest standard in high performance composite wood shafts. One of last year’s most popular products, Assailant, is strengthened with the addition of Assailant OSC (oversized core). The new larger dimensioned butt (.865” vs. .600”) Assailant OSC delivers filament wound performance, a lower balance point, and the opportunity to produce a lighter weight club. Also new for 1998 is Regency, a flag wrapped shaft that borders on the ultra light weight category. Regency is also offered with an oversized butt profile.

Quantum is the newest addition to the line of SensiCore™ products. It is available only as an iron shaft and is designed for golfers who prefer a conventional tour weighted steel shaft. Quantum is offered exclusively with SensiCore™ vibration damping technology. It joins an already impressive line-up of SensiCore™ products which includes Dynamic Gold®, Dynalite Gold®, Stratus™, Gold Plus®, Release®, and Rocket™.

Within the steel product line, True Temper is reintroducing ExtraLite™, an ultra light weight shaft first introduced in 1980. The TT Lite® XL is a longer version of the popular TT Lite®. The new longer length will help to accommodate a much wider array of club assembly options. Dynalite Gold®, a frequency matched light weight shaft, will also be offered in longer lengths for tapered irons.

True Temper is also proud to introduce a new line of shafts designed exclusively for junior golfers. The Dynamic Gold J-300, for woods and irons, is an ultra light weight steel shaft that will be the choice for up and coming golfers. TrueLite 500 completes the junior shaft line with a graphite wood shaft and a steel iron shaft. It provides the ideal combination of overall flexibility and tip flexibility to provide young players with great shaft action and feedback.

True Temper Sports is the largest producer of golf shafts in the world and is consistently the number one shaft on the PGA tour. With headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, True Temper manufactures a full line of steel and graphite shafts.
