Q: How do I choose the right fork for my bike?
A: Alpha Q offers 10 different models of forks to fit nearly any road, tandem
or cross frame made. First identify the type of riding you do using the
fork chart. Choose a model with the performance characteristics that you
desire. Next determine the size headset that your frame requires; 1”,
1 1/8”, or 1 1/8” integrated. Depending on the model you choose,
you may also have a choice of rake for certain models. If you do not know
the rake most appropriate for your bicycle, contact your local bike shop,
or call customer service for assistance.
Q: Do you make custom forks?
A: No. We have 48 different stock models to fit the needs of most
any road or cyclo cross rider.
Q: Do you have a disc brake compatible fork?
A: No.
Q: Do I need to use the Insert Kit supplied with the all-carbon
forks? Will a compression plug work?
A: You must use the insert to comply with the warranty. A compression plug
provides an anchor for the head set tension bolt. The insert does this and
more. It also reinforces the steerer at the clamp area to support the clamping
force of the stem better than any carbon tube with only a compression plug.
Thirdly, the insert stiffens the top portion of the steerer for a more solid
feel in the stem and handlebars where torque is generated. The insert provides
the most solid connection possible and is well worth the time to install it.
Q: Can I resize my carbon steerer fork after the insert
has been installed?
A: Yes, you can remove up to 2 cm of steerer after the installation of the
insert.
Q: Do you have a limit to the spacer stack height allowed
on a carbon steerer?
A: Yes. Use no more than 40mm (1.5 inch) of spacers under your stem.
Q: Do you have a weight limit for your forks?
A: 200 Lbs for the Two-7, 225 for the SUB3. All other forks are approved for
use by any rider.
Q: What is the warranty on the Alpha Q forks?
A: All Alpha Q components are supported with a 3-year limited warranty. View
Warranty.
Q: Do you have a crash replacement policy?
A: Yes. We like to help out customers who have had an accident. View Crash Replacement Policy
Q: What is rake and how does it affect handling?
A: Rake is the offset of the fork dropouts from the axis of the steerer tube.
Rake should be matched within 2mm of the OEM fork to maintain the same
ride characteristics. More rake will result in quicker steering response.
Less rake will result in more stability. To find the rake of your OEM fork,
check with the Manufacturer of the frame.
